Song Story
This song came out of an important
time in our family life while our kids were in their teenage years. In todays culture,
with all of the humanistic pressures all around, it is becoming harder-and-harder to
maintain true devotion to God. This is true especially in our public schools. Years ago we
decided that we would put our kids in public schools because we considered it to be
important be a light before the world. Through the years this decision has proven to be a
good one and we (including our children) have had opportunities to witness the love and
truths of the Scriptures in ways that we would not otherwise had. However, it has been
difficult at times for our kids to maintain their Christian stance while surrounded by so
much culture that has nothing to do with Christianity.
We were having a particular problem with one of them and were wondering what kind of
decisions would be made. We were dealing with the seeds of rebellion and the concern arose
that a delicate heart was being pulled away from God.
It was then that the scripture came to mind that details the end of Joshuas life. As he
talked to Israel he admonished them to serve the Lord and the Lord only. It was then that
he declared As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Josh 24:15) That scripture
became our rallying cry and we determined that we would not leave the future to chance.
Our house would serve the Lord. . .and indeed, based upon our firmness the situation was
resolved. In the midst of this trial I wrote this song. It is a song of dedication,
declaring the object of our affection and who we will worship and serve.
The music trac came slowly, but it ended out to be one of the best that I had produced to
date. A melodic cello sings over the picking of acoustic guitars as the piano lightly
enters in to introduce the vocal. Eventually the song swells in a praise chorus that
sweetly proclaims I will worship you, I will honor you, I will love you Lord. .
Vanessa was very enthused about it and joyously laid the vocal tracs. The harmonies just
seemed to swell out of her, and the results were outstanding (as they always seem to be
when she sings). The verse is a round, and notice how beautifully she carries it through
in the last verse.
This is a song of devotion to the Lord. We pray that it will encourage you, too, in your
efforts to consecrate your homes to Him as you praise God singing this wonderful chorus.
