The Lord's
Prayer (Instrumental)
|
"I might
not be a religious man myself but I know good music when I hear it, and this is very
good! . . . I dont think that I have ever given such high
ratings to so many songs before. But
the fact is that they are well deserved because the
music is amazing. Simply wonderful religious ballads and they
really get to your heart. . .everytime."
Fredrik Cole: Trax In Space
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
As it is heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us, deliver us from evil,
For Thine is the kingdom,
And the Power,
And the Glory,
Forever, and ever.
Amen.
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name.
Our Father, Who art in heaven;
Hallowed be Thy Name,
Hallowed be Thy Name,
Hallowed be Thy Name.

Song Story
One of my favorite praise times while
I attended Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa in the late 70s was the acapella congregational
singing of the Lords Prayer. The singing of those great words spoken by Jesus has always
been inspiring to me. Yet I never harbored any particular intention of writing my own
version of this prayer. One day, though, I was sitting down at the piano messing around
with a Bb chord, while rolling up-and down on the keys. As I was doing this, I began to
sing the Lords Prayer while changing chords to fit the melody that was spontaneously
coming out of my mouth.
I nearly wrote the whole song straight through in one take! Not wanting this one to get
away I quickly grabbed a paper and pencil and began writing the piece down. Throughout the
next few months I refined the melody and chords to its final form. This was done in the
early 80s while I was music minister at Calvary Chapel Bakersfield. Most of the songs that
I wrote at the time I introduced to the congregation for praise-singing. However, I never
did show them this one, nor did the Calvary Chapel Praise Singers learn it as they had the
other songs that I had written during this song-writing era.
It was years later when I was active with our ministry group Selah that I showed Virginia
the song. She fell in love with it and sang it better than I could have ever imagined. The
rest of us added harmonies to her lead creating an angelic chorus of dynamic vocals. The
Lords Prayer became one of the most moving portions of our set and we consistently ended
with it.
We eventually took it to Fat Trac studios to record it for our CD Stop and Think About It.
The dynamic vocals and mellow piano are the centerpiece of the cut. Early in 199 we
released it on MP3.com with fantastic results. Not only were there a multitude of
downloads, but some, we found, desired to use it in their weddings. I was so enthused by
the response that I decided to release an instrumental version for my solo project The
Piano. I utilized the basic piano tracs while adding additional strings to carry the
melody. I think you will be pleased with the results.
It is a very simple arrangement starting with a melodic piano solo accompanied by strings.
A cello eventually enters in on the melody to be joined later by a viola creating a sweet
duet. Eventually a chorus of string break out setting the pace for the rest of the song.
The piece continues to build to a tremendous crescendo that is absolutely exhilarating.
After this, the arrangement settles down to a quiet, reflective piano solo ending on a
deep, powerful chord.
The orchestration turned out to be very moving and inspirational. It consistently
invigorates enthusiastic praise to God every time it is played. We know that you will be
lifted up as you hear it.
