"I might
not be a religious man myself but I know good music when I hear it, and this is very
good! . . . I dont think that I have ever given such high
ratings to so many songs before. But
the fact is that they are well deserved because the
music is amazing. Simply wonderful religious ballads and they
really get to your heart. . .everytime."

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want
He's my Lord, He's my shepherd.
The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want
He's my Lord, He's my shepherd.
He maketh me to lie, to lie down in green pastures.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me,
Beside the still, still waters.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me,
Beside the still, still waters.
He restoreth my soul, he leadeth me,
In the paths of His righteousness.
For His namesake, He leadeth me,
In the paths of His righteousness.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me,
Beside the still, still waters.
He leadeth me, he leadeth me,
Beside the still, still waters.
Lead me to Your waters,
Lead me to Your waters,
Lead me to Your waters,
Lead me to Your love.

Most excellent. . .TraxInSpace This rendition of the first part of Psalm 23, with itssmooth pop-jazz style, creates a pastoral mood. It tells of the guidance and provision of the Lord for His people. Davids famous psalm as performed by the Calvary Chapel Praise Singers will lead you to a pleasant experience away from your hectic world.
Great effect. Nice professional touches all over. (The arrangement is) Most
excellent... it was, ahem, music to my ears. It just all flowed together very nicely, the
voices and the guitar and that calming flute.
Good use of Psalm 23, and the way the song didn't follow it exactly was a nice touch. the
recording quality is top-notch. Download this if you like this genre at all. I usually
don't, but I loved this song.
This is a beautiful rendition of Psalm 23 set to music. I am quite sure that this is not
tracked, as it is a very professional recording job. It did seem that the voices were
focused more on the right channel, but it didn't hurt the song at all. If you like slower
choral songs, you can't pass this one up.

Song Story
Psalm 23 is undoubtedly the most popular psalm of most Christians. When you read it you
are left with no doubt why this is so. Not only doesthe psalm speak so powerful of Gods
provision, but it communicates this in the most peaceful way imaginable. When one thinks
of a shepherd over his flock he can only picture a grassy hillside with meandering streams
dotted with a few trees. Under one of these trees stands the Good Shepherd with his staff
in his hand overlooking the flock who are peaceful grazing the pasture. If danger lurks,
the sheep need not worry, for the shepherd will lay His life down for them. If the food
source is depleted, the Shepherd will gently lead His flock to new pastures where the
grass is plentiful. Indeed, this psalm speaks of Gods provision and rest.
It was that mood that I was attempting to capture when I set the first half of Psalm 23 to
music. I decided that rich, lush chords would suit the mood best. . .and it eventually
became a regular part of the church service at Calvary Chapel. When the Praise Singers
determined to record an album, The Lord is My Shepherd was a logical choice.
I decided to record it as a duet between Mitch Toelle and Rosalee Easter who were
long-standing soloists in the group. However, neither one of them had studio experience.
Now, when the praise singers laid the background vocals, everything went fine. The only
thing left to do was put the leads over what we had. We booked Mitch and Rosalee in the
studio expecting that they would sing the song as they always had done. However,
inexperience lead to nervousness and they both choked up and couldnt sing worth a darn.
The whole session was a complete bust and we were forced to walk away with nothing.
Some were advising me replace the soloists. However, I was confident enough in Gods
provision that I determined to stick it out with the two of them. To avoid another
expensive disaster, I got together with them and rehearsed the heck out of the piece. When
we went back into the studio though, the same thing began happening all over again. At our
wits end w e finally gathered together, prayed and committed the work to God. Everything
immediately turned around and we came out with a wonderful duet.
The song was so sweet that we determined to add flute fills. During my preparation for the
project I wrote out most of the parts for the instrumentalists to play. However, Wendy was
a very talented improvisational flute player. So, we cut her loose to play just as she did
in the church worship services. The results were better than pleasing.
The recording of this song was a lesson for all of us in Gods provision. We pray the
blessing that we received will touch you as it did us as God fills you with confidence
your Good Shepherd.
