"I might
not be a religious man myself but I know good music when I hear it, and this is very
good! . . . I dont think that I have ever given such high
ratings to so many songs before. But
the fact is that they are well deserved because the
music is amazing. Simply wonderful religious ballads and they
really get to your heart. . .everytime."

Promises given and covenants meant for life,
Are leaving hearts broken, cause somebody changed their mind.
Let your yes be yes and your nos be no,
The words you say be true,
Cause somebody else has heard and is counting on you.
You made a decision, and you meant it with all of your heart,
From Gods holy union, you know you promised youd never depart.
But love is confusing and at times to much to bear.
Now maybe it seems easier to say that you dont care.
Promises given and covenants meant for life,
Are leaving hearts broken, cause somebody changed their mind.
Let your yes be yes and your nos be no,
The words you say be true,
Cause somebody else has heard and is counting on you.
Your soul is hurting and your wounded heart is torn.
You think it would be impossible to ever see you love restored.
But the Lord is your healer and He wants to take tour hand,
To lead you in a way that is better than the one that youve planned.
Now you gave your life to Jesus and you saw your dreams fulfilled,
But bearing the cross with Him is something you do with your will.
So receive the peace that passes understanding in His name,
And He will fill your heart with love and you wont be the same.
Promises given and covenants made for life,
Will mend your broken heart cause He will never change His mind.
Let your yes be yes and your nos be no, the words you say be true,
Cause somebody else has heard and is counting on you, theyre counting on you.
Promises given and covenants meant for life,
Are leaving hearts broken, cause somebody changed their mind.
Let your yes be yes and your nos be no,
The words you say be true,
Cause somebody else has heard and is counting on you.
Somebody else has heard and is counting on you.
Somebody else has heard and is counting on you.
The promises you gave,
In the covenants you made,
Theyre counting on you.

"A lot of professionalism is brought into this piece to make it sound as well as it does. . .the arrangement is technically solid and enjoyable. A very good guitar and backing vocals. A nice slow easy listening tune, much alike the style of JB de los Santos." Roncli: Trax In Space
Song Story
One of the greatest tragedies of our modern culture is divorce. The innocent victims of
this ongoing plague continue to be our children. Over-and-over again I have witnessed
marriages fall apart because one or both of the partners decided to renege on the vows
made on their wedding day. Once their mind has been made up, there seems to be no talking
them out of it. This contempt for marital vows stands in the face of warnings regarding
the consequences that their children (who have no choice in the matter) will face.
Over-and-over I have seen people hold their line because the aftereffects of their
decision are not held important. Yet the scars that are left on the lives of children
whose parents decided to end it continue to escalate.
I doubt if there are many couples who intend to break their wedding vows the day they
stand before each other and witnesses as the minister pronounces them man and wife. Yet,
it is becoming more evident that a considerable amount of those who say I do do not
realize the importance of keeping ones word. When a promise is made, others are dependent
upon that declaration. Promises broken always deal out hurt and anguish.
This is what I was thinking about as I began to compose this song. I wanted to write
something that would communicate musically to others that ones word is the most important
thing that could be given to another. Out of this thought, Promises Given was born.
When I introduced the song to Selah I sang it with an acoustic guitar. As I sang the song
to them I could see that their hearts were moved. We decided, because the music was strong
and the message clear, that it would become a part of our regular song list. The subject
matter was so intimate and personal that we concluded not to build up an intricate
instrumental arrangement, but sing harmonies over the simple acoustic guitar.
The song is a ballad. It is simple and straight to the point to communicate one of the
most important messages of our time. We need to stand for our families. We must learn to
be faithful to our word.
I do not know what your life situation is. I do know, though, that no matter what
circumstances surround us, we must act with integrity. Whether it involves spouses,
relatives, friends or business partners, it is imperative that Christians are true to
their word. As you listen to this song, I pray that God ministers to you. You might be
thinking of leaving your spouse. You may be thinking of backing out on a promise to a
friend. You might waffle in regards to promises you have given to your children. Perhaps
you are a keeper of your word. Regardless of your position in the matter the fact remains
clear. Christ has told us to let our yes be yes and our nos be nos. God is truth. A
truthful Christian is a true worshipper of God. This is the story that this song tells.
