"I might
not be a religious man myself but I know good music when I hear it, and this is very
good! . . . I dont think that I have ever given such high
ratings to so many songs before. But
the fact is that they are well deserved because the
music is amazing. Simply wonderful religious ballads and they
really get to your heart. . .everytime."

Rom 12:1-2; Heb 13:15; Heb 12:2)
I praise Your wondrous name,
Thankful for your Son who came and died for me.
Your mercy from above, filled my heart with heavens love,
And now I will live forever. . .
With a heart set to please You,
And a life declaring holiness,
I bring my sacrifice of praise,
Forsaking the world, renewing my mind.
Ever proving Your will, Lord,
With my eyes fixed on Jesus,
Who gave a sacrifice for me,
Enduring the cross, redeeming His own,
Now I worship You.
Gracious God, my Lord and King,
An offering I bring for You abide in me,
Always blessed with faithfulness,
Dwelling in Your righteousness,
And now I will live forever. . .
With a heart set to please You,
And a life declaring holiness,
I bring my sacrifice of praise,
Forsaking the world, renewing my mind.
Ever proving Your will, Lord,
With my eyes fixed on Jesus,
Who gave a sacrifice for me,
Enduring the cross, redeeming His own,
Now I worship You.
With a heart set to please You,
And a life declaring holiness,
I bring my sacrifice of praise,
Forsaking the world, renewing my mind.
Ever proving Your will, Lord,
With my eyes fixed on Jesus,
Who gave a sacrifice for me,
Enduring the cross, redeeming His own,
Now I worship You.
Now I worship You,
Lord, I worship You.

This song came as a result of intense struggle and enlightenment. It was not
an easy one to write! When I showed my first draft to Vanessa she politely responded that
it wasnt up to my usual caliber. Draft after draft ensued until I finally came up with
something that I knew was good. Upon hearing it she finally agreed and I was able to file
away the stack of notes for the song that I had been collecting for so long.
However, this praise song came from more than just musical struggle. In fact, it was half
a life of personal searching and agonizing to uncover an understanding of the meaning of
worship that lead to the final words that you see. I decided in the early 80s to commence
a thorough study of worship that ended out spanning decades. In the beginning of the quest
I a was the music pastor of a prominent Calvary Chapel in Bakersfield, Ca. Yet it wasnt
until over a decade later that I discovered that I had everything wrong. Early on, I
thought worship a feeling or experience --the act of meeting God face-to-face. However, it
was after a long search through the scriptures and church history that I discovered the
simplicity of Romans 12:1 that declares: Therefore, I urge you brothers, in view of Gods
mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing unto God -- which is
your spiritual worship. I found in that one line that worship is not an experience, but,
rather, a life-long life of service unto Him. Fixing ones eyes on Jesus (Heb 12:2) is the
act of throwing off the sin that entangles us, running a complete race, enduring, with the
help of God, till the end. As Hebrews 12:15 testifies, praise is sacrifice.
The personal words to this passionate song sum up these magnificent biblical truths
culminating in the emotional cry, Now I worship you. Worship is the giving of everything,
and Vanessa has given her all, as her voice rises with clarity expressing her love for God
and dedication to serve Him. When I finally got her into the studio, she sang it so
magnificently. The session was over in a flash. However, the sound engineer (that is me)
blew it and over-recorded her tracs resulting in distortion in places.
Believe me, happiness did not fill the room when I told her she would have to go back and
sing it again! You just dont tell a singer who has just laid down a dynamite cut to do it
again. It just doesnt work!
Reluctantly she went back to the mike and we went through the whole ordeal once again.
But, as history fortells, the second take just didnt have the energy of the earlier one.
Luckily though, I kept the original tracs. When I later went back to mix the song down, I
found that, with a little bit of work in the computer, I could keep the best of Vanessas
first awesome take while replacing the distorted parts with portions of her second take.
The results were magnificent and she was very happy. Whew!!! I have to tell you. That was
close!!!
We pray that you will be blessed by the moving music and the words that speak to the heart
while they direct the spirit towards true scriptural worship. The delicate piano at the
beginning sets the stage for Vanessas gentle voice praising God for what He has done for
us in giving His Son. As the second verse gently picks up you will know that the song is
going somewhere, and indeed it does, as drums kick in under string melodies building to an
exciting chorus that will certainly encourage you in your worship of God. Finally, the B3
rips in lending excitement to a conclusion that rings forth a melody that fills longing
hearts with exultation
