Psalm 40:1 declares, “I waited patiently for the Lord; He turned to me and heard my cry.” Many times we are impatient because God is not taking care of things fast enough. However, this song by Selah tells us that we need to trust God because He will work things out in due time. The awesome sax solo by Paul Perez in this song adds to the good beat and tight harmonies.
Coming from the ‘60s generation I guess I have always had a special
liking for the music of that era and ‘70s that followed. During those days some of my
favorite groups were the likes of The Buffalo Springfield, Crosby Stills Nash and Young,
The Eagles, and Loggins and Messina. I had always wanted to write a song that utilized the
type of tight harmonies that these groups put out. All of these songs, though, just turned
out to be copies of the better original. “Give It More Time” was the first of
these attempts that actually worked.
It was written during a time that I was having a great struggle with intense trials. A lot
was happening and it appeared to me that life was going to be permanently on the down
swing. I desperately wanted God to bring good news and I wanted it now. But it just
wouldn’t come.
As I became encouraged by the Scriptures and those who were ministering to me in the small
home group that I was attending, I began to realize that this was just a short portion of
my life and an even shorter fragment of eternity. I was convinced that I needed to learn
patience and let God work things out in good time. “Give It More Time” came out
of these events.
The tracs were laid by Selah at Fat Tracs studios and engineered by Max Reese. The
harmonies accompanied by guitar riffs and a good beat came out just as tight as I had
imagined. But the best part of the recording is the sax solo. There was a portion of the
song that I had always wanted a classic tenor sax. Rick Davis, the studio owner, suggested
that I contact Paul Perez for the part. I was not disappointed. Paul, who is a #1 MP3.com
artist in his own right, is one of the premier sax players in the country. His tracs on
this song were laid in one cut and are outstanding!
The song is very uplifting. We hope it will encourage you as it has us.
